2025 Payment Settlements Graduate Program

Join us at the heart of the Australian payments system.

This is an opportunity for you to join the Reserve Bank team that operates RITS, Australia's interbank settlement system. RITS is a critical part of Australia’s payments infrastructure, relied upon by everyone in the country whenever they make an electronic payment. You will collaborate with a diverse team and promote the public interest by ensuring the reliable, safe and efficient functioning of this critical national infrastructure.

As a graduate in Payments Settlements, you will make important contributions to the Australian economy as you gain a unique insight into this core operational function of a central bank. You will help to solve complex challenges, contribute to the expertise needed to safely underpin a rapidly evolving payments landscape and support the implementation of monetary policy. You will be supported to reach your potential with a range of training and development opportunities.

We are currently recruiting graduates in two streams.

Business Policy Stream

As a graduate in this stream, you will be at the centre of the team responsible for the business policy, analysis and strategic development of our settlement services. We formulate and implement wide-ranging business decisions that may cover topics such as cyber security, competition and innovation to ensure the RBA’s critical payment systems remain world-class.

From day one, you will get the opportunity to:

  • analyse and visualise large datasets to monitor and interpret payment trends.
  • write and present briefings to management with key data insights.
  • monitor developments in domestic and international payment systems.
  • liaise with financial institutions, payment services providers and other central banks.
  • collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop business solutions.

Applicants for the Business Policy Stream must hold or be completing a degree with strong academic achievement with a business/economics/commerce focus. Contributory studies in finance, data science, information technology and/or business information systems, would be highly valued.

Business Analyst Stream

As the Business Analyst graduate, you will be working as part of an integrated team of developers, testers, operations specialists and business policy staff to deliver solutions that enhance RITS and other Payments Settlements systems.

From day one, you will get the opportunity to:

  • undertake analysis of current business processes to identify improvements and efficiencies.
  • contribute to successful project delivery of key internal system upgrades.
  • liaise and collaborate with Information Technology, other departments and external institutions to ensure business needs are met.
  • gather and review data to create detailed business requirements.
  • communicate complex business and technical information to a diverse range of stakeholders.

Applicants for the Business Analyst Stream must hold or be completing a degree with strong academic achievement in information technology and business information systems. Contributory studies in economics, finance, business and/or commerce would be highly valued.

As an RBA employee, you will have access to a number of benefits including an onsite cafeteria, social and sporting clubs and Employee Resource Groups, which bring together employees from across the Bank who share an interest in various issues within the community.

All applicants must be Australian permanent residents or have Australian or New Zealand citizenship.

All applicants must include a cover letter with their application.
